Planning and preparation for re-opening your Waterfront business

According to the latest Government announcement, it may be possible for some of our Waterfront businesses to reopen from 1st June and potentially 4th July for those in the leisure and hospitality sector. It’s important to highlight that extra steps will need to be taken to ensure the safety of the public, you and your staff.

The PWP has been working with Plymouth City Council and other partners on a plan for recovery and we will share those details with Waterfront BID members as soon as we are able to. It is our number one priority to create a safe environment for our shoppers, customers and your staff as the Covid-19 restrictions are gradually eased.

We have spent the last few weeks working with the council to help Waterfront businesses access business support, grants and other funding streams. We have also been promoting those businesses that were allowed to trade or were continuing to operate online through our social media channels and the Shop4Plymouth platform.

Now, we are preparing for recovery.

We will be looking at a number of areas, including:

  • Transport and parking

  • Signage and information

  • Social distancing

  • Safety and cleansing

  • Communication

But there is much you can do in the meantime to promote your business and make sure it is safe to re-open when you are allowed to do so.

Here’s a few considerations:

  • If you are not online, or promoting your business on social media now’s the time to get started (see our Social Media Resources for support)

  • Think about how many customers you can safely allow in your shop at any one time

  • Install floor markings and other signage to allow customers to remain two metres apart

  • Provide hand sanitiser for customers

  • Ensure thorough and regular cleansing of all main touch points

  • Offer cashless payments
