Pirates Weekend Plymouth - Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 May 2018

April 27, 2018

Pirates Weekend Plymouth Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 May 2018 The Barbican, Sutton Harbour & West Hoe Park

The Best Family Pirates Weekend in the South West

Designed and funded by Plymouth Waterfront Partnership, the event returns promising two days of swashbuckling action as salty sea dogs and land lubbers get together in Plymouth for a host of great entertainment.

More businesses are involved this year with Marine Biological Association, Mount Batten Centre, National Marine Aquarium, Plymouth Biological Association and the Sutton Harbour all putting on activities to attract footfall and grow the event. Thousands are expected to attend in pirate fancy dress and enjoy a boat load of free events, including great music, the chance to meet the scurvy crew of two pirate ships and a new treasure trail for the whole family. Jonty Depp and Captain Barbossa will return to entertain the crowds.

Shiver me timbers!

There is going to be two Tall Ships for Pirates Weekend Plymouth

The star attraction will be the two tall ships docked in Sutton Harbour - The Phoenix and the Grayhound – which are both free to climb aboard and explore.

Visitors may recognise The Phoenix, a replica of an 18th Century Brig, from her starring roles in TV and film productions such as Poldark, Frontier and Taboo.

New Pirate Trail

A new Pirate Trail, sponsored by Sutton Harbour, will be running across The Barbican and Sutton Harbour throughout the weekend, with treasure maps and code breakers available to buy from the Tourist Information Centre.

It’s fun for all the family and every completed treasure hunt will win a prize.

National Marine Aquarium Treasure Trail and Beach Clean

Hop on the ferry and visit the National Marine Aquarium. Once inside grab a treasure map and help Black Beard find his missing crew who have disappeared around the Aquarium. Be sure to chat to their crew mates about the amazing animals you can find on your journey.

The Aquarium will also be holding beach cleans during Pirates Weekend:

12 May, 9.30 to 11.30am, Teats Hill Beach. Who knows, you may even find some buried treasure...

13 May, 9.30 to 11.30am, Bantham Beach. Join for a morning of ocean conservation!

Pirate Powerboat Trips

The Mount Batten Centre will be running 30-minute Pirate Powerboat trips from West Pier, taking in the Hoe, Drake’s Island and Plymouth Sound. Tickets cost £6.50 per person or £20 for a family of four and must be booked in advance.
