Nick Buckland OBE, has this week been announced as the new Chairman of the Plymouth Waterfront Partnership. As a proactive Business Improvement District (BID), the appointment for the PWP is a key one for the City of Plymouth.
The Plymouth Waterfront Partnership (PWP) is a business-led not for profit Plc which operates the Waterfront BID across four square miles of the city’s primary Waterfront areas. The Waterfront BID champions delivery of the city’s strategic Waterfront Masterplan, puts on the Plymouth Pirates Weekend, Plymouth Seafood Festival and Christmas illuminations and works with partners to market the city to attract national and international visitors.
With an impressive and diverse background, Nick Buckland has chaired over fifteen regional and national boards in his career, and is currently Chair of the Theatre Royal Plymouth and KARST, Chair of South West Waters ‘Water Futures Customer Panel’, Advisory Board Member of Devon & Cornwall Business Council, and is a trustee of both Plymouth Marine Laboratory and Peninsula Medical Foundation. He is also the Chair of Governors of the Plymouth UTC. Previously Nick was Chair of Governors and Pro Chancellor of the University of Plymouth, he Chaired Plymouth Science Park. He was also the Deputy Chair of the South West Regional Development Agency and a board member of The Plymouth Development Company.
PWP Board member Ben Shearn from The Treasury Group said, “Nick’s appointment comes at a key time for the BID, we are now in our second term, keen to focus our strategic efforts, and in turn generate further legacy for the Waterfront in Britain’s Ocean City.”

Nick Buckland’s appointment showcases the ambition and confidence the partnership has for this key city gateway and destination.”
