Plymouth will host an Illuminate and Thanksgiving event on Thursday 26 November. The event organised by Plymouth Waterfront Partnership, Plymouth City Council and Plymouth Mayflower 400 Leadership Group commemorates the Pilgrims voyage to the New World.
This event continues the official countdown to the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower sailing in 2020. The aim of the event is to ‘share the light’ and inspire a sense of unity between Plymouth and America.
You are invited to join us for a short ceremony at the Mayflower Steps, starting at 5pm which will see The Lord Mayor of Plymouth, Councillor Dr John Mahony, Chair of Plymouth Waterfront Partnership, Chris Arscott and Plymouth historian Chris Robinson all conduct a short speech.
This will be followed by performances by a children’s choir organised by Montpelier School and a lantern parade, leaving commercial wharf and walking through the Barbican and Sutton Harbour to the Minister Church of St Andrew. Here Reverend Joe Dent will conduct a short Illuminate and Thanksgiving service.
