Plymouth's Waterfront receives a further £100k investment

The Government has responded to calls for more investment in Plymouth's Waterfront. The Plymouth Waterfront Partnership Business Improvement District has worked in close partnership with Plymouth City Council to bid for investment funding from the Government and won £100k from the Coastal Communities Fund. This cash is additional to the first round of funding won by the partnership bringing the total to £770,400 received for infrastructural improvements.

Waterfront businesses have informed Plymouth City Council, putting a spotlight on the needs across the Waterfront and prioritised projects through the Waterfront BID. This provides a cohesive and strategic approach to ensuring constant improvement and investment within the Waterfront.

Successes have included new toilets at the Barbican and Elphinstone car park, permanent lighting of iconic structures including Smeaton's Tower and The Mayflower Steps, road resurfacing and new orientation signage for visitors.

This latest success has arisen from the partnership becoming a recognised Coastal Communities Team, able to bid for a share of grants released by the Government's Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG). A recent statement from DCLG suggested further grants will be made available from a pot of £90m between 2016 and 2021.

Two projects will benefit from £50k each in this latest success. Tinside East and Mountbatten Tower will see improvements to infrastructure and access, more details have been featured in today's Herald. Please click here
