BRITAIN'S OCEAN CITY

A lively and authentic waterfront community with a distinct European feel

Plymouth Waterfront Recovery

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Plymouth Waterfront Partnership has been working closely with Plymouth City Council and other partners to inform Waterfront BID Members of the rapid changes and enable them to receive support and grants and funds released by the Government.

The BID’s role is as important as ever, representing over 900 businesses across the Barbican, Sutton Harbour, Queen Anne’s Battery, Hoe, Millbay, Royal William Yard, Mount Batten and Mayflower Marina. We are doing everything we can to support the Waterfront business community during these difficult times.

Following the Government announcement this week, many businesses will be looking towards the planned date of 1st June re-opening and the Waterfront BID will be there to stand with you and support you in this process and beyond.

Our key priority right now is helping bring footfall back to the Waterfront in a safe, controlled manner.

Your Waterfront BID is also:

•             Continuing to lobby on behalf of businesses for further support.

•             Working with our partners on a co-ordinated approach to opening up the city.

•             Provide you with the information you need to re-open safely.

•             Helping establish our plans for long-term recovery.

We will continue to keep you informed, with regular updates on support and guidance available to you, and to help keep you, your staff and customers safe. Please  check our website, social media channels on Facebook and Twitter and newsletters for the latest information.

ABOUT THE BID

The Waterfront Business Improvement District (BID) has been in operation since April 2012 and is delivered through Plymouth Waterfront Partnership Ltd (PWP), a not-for-profit PLC.

The BID represents more than 900 businesses across four square miles of the Plymouth Waterfront area. Businesses include accommodation providers, attractions, licensed premises, marinas, professional service providers and retailers, currently paying a 1.6% Levy based on their rateable value.

Plymouth Waterfront businesses voted in favour to renew the BID for a further five years of the Business Improvement District in March 2017 and the BID will operate until the end of March 2022. Our projects outlined in the Business Plan for Waterfront BID2 are: Attract More Visitors; Create Attractive Places; Reduce Business Costs.

PWP works in close partnership with the Plymouth City Centre Company BID, Destination Plymouth and Plymouth City Council.

ABOUT PLYMOUTH

Plymouth is Britain's Ocean City, a lively and authentic waterfront community with a distinct European feel created by the many marinas, restaurants, alfresco pavement cafes and waterfront bars, historic buildings and strong modernist architecture that lines Armada Way, the city's central boulevard.

Plymouth boasts fantastic attractions. From the largest aquarium in the UK to galleries, parks and historic houses there is plenty to fascinate you from dawn till dusk.

The Barbican and Sutton Harbour are home to a number of attractions. Visit the National Marine Aquarium and be amazed by its underwater world.  It has over 70 sharks from more than ten different species.

At Plymouth Gin visitors can tour the distillery to see how their unique smooth Gin is made, visit their cocktail bar and eat in the award winning restaurant.

There's a variety of water sports and other activities to enjoy at the Mount Batten Centre.

The Royal William Yard hosts a wide range of restaurants, artists and events, including regular food markets.
